Decluttering My Smart Phone

I've always wanted to take a break from my phone, but in this Modern age, it's difficult to do so. So I altered how I used my phone.

It was difficult to break the ice as someone who was socially available on the phone at all times. But I was certain to do it at some point. It's still a work in progress, but I believe I've made it halfway.

My texting abilities were better compared with my speaking abilities, so I switched sides. I started having actual conversations with people and responded to texts less frequently unless it was an emergency.

As an example,

Ms. X: How are you doing?
(Thought less about responding)

Ms. X:- Can we wander to Kwality Walls and get a scoop of ice cream?
(Considered to reply)

This is not to indicate that you should invite me out for ice cream to have a chat, but right now in my life, I prefer to engage in talks in person rather than texting on a 5 inch screen.

I used to check my phone several times throughout the day since it was always vibrating. So I asked myself, "Why are they actually connecting with me?" So! I silenced everyone and connected less frequently to avoid the phone's vibrating pop ups.

We rarely leave our phones at home since we use them for navigation rather than asking people for directions. We could walk to the grocery store, but instead we order them on blinkit with just one touch on the phone. We rarely saw authentic smiles on people's faces because we always connected them via face time.

When someone made a Skype call a decade ago, it felt novel. We had the feeling of connecting with them, but now nothing feels new because we have access 24x7.

I have already executed a 30-day experiment of not using social media in 2019, and now in 2023, I'm trying to avoid my phone by doing activities like reading books and writing blogs, although I do need a phone for posting my blogs. Right now, I can't entirely ditch my phone, but I can use it less frequently and be content.

We are continuously looking for reasons to engage in negative habits, such as how I use my phone. As a result, I decided to scribble the blogs and upload them all at once. So I'm keeping my phone in my pocket until it vibrates for a phone call or an urgent email from my boss. My blogs will be drafted in a physical notebook or via my laptop. Instead of looking for my favorite writing app, I'm going to go for the right pen to scrawl down my blog ideas.

This may appear dumb to you, but it may be the happiest move I've made for myself at the time; this may change in the future. But for the time being, I'm looking forward to using my phone less.

I'm interested in reading physical books; if you have any recommendations, please let me know.

Thanks for Reading.
Happy Weekend!
