The Park Couple

It was 4 p.m. on October 10, and I went to the park to film a YouTube video, but I ended up writing this blog for a reason: I witnessed an exchange of love between two people.

As soon as I walked into the park, I started searching for the right lighting and a spot to film my youtube video. As I was about to press the record button on my phone, I noticed a man who appeared to be in his mid-50s. His hair was black, and although he didn't have the texture of an elderly man, he was wearing lenses. He was looking at his phone and fiddling with his earbuds as he stood in front of me. He eventually moved toward the park's entrance, which was just a few metres away from me.

He had been there for a short while when a woman—possibly his wife, partner, co-conspirator, friend, and so forth—came by, carrying a basket of fruits. They might have come to the park for a picnic date, I intuited. They both suddenly gave each other a bear hug without any hesitation, guilt, or embarrassment, sharing that lovely, delightful experience. I was overjoyed to see them come together and share that special moment of love as I watched this.

Their time spent in the park was incredibly calming. They were both over 50 years old and were walking to lower their blood sugar levels, but they weren't just shaking hands; they were also pinching and pushing each other, holding each other's ears, and holding hands—a walking gesture I like to refer to as the love language. He followed her and she followed him while they were walking. If he made a joke, she would strike him in the shoulder as a teacher would a student, making noise in the quiet park.

Thanks for reading.
